It is said that the normal and the total
leukocyte (white blood cells) count varies with the complete age of a person.
It also has the so called diurnal cycle i.e. counts vary during a 24 hour day.
Normally they range approximately 4000 to 10,000 per? In an adult.
The white blood cells in the body, also known
as leukocytes comprises of the granulocytes (cells with granules in their
cytoplasm) and even the mononuclear cells (cells with a single nucleus).
Granulocytes are of three types – neutrophils, eosinophils and the basophils
while mononuclear cells are lymphocytes and monocytes. The White blood cells
helps to protect the body against various kinds of diseases and fight
infections effectively.
The Leukocytosis is an elevated above the so
called accepted normal range of total leukocytes. The usually only single type of cell is
responsible for this complete increase, but, in fact there may be some simultaneous
increase in the several cell types. The count may at times go up due to an
independent increase in any component of the white cells, that is, the
neutrophils (called neutrophilia), the lymphocytes (called lymphocytosis), and
the monocytes (called monocytosis), eosinophils (called eosinophilia) or as
well the basophils (called basophilia).
What Is TLC or the Total
Leukocyte Count?
The Leukocytes are white simple coloured blood
cells which definitely defends our body against the infections and even diseases.
They may be decrease in number in certain disease making the body completely prone
to infections.
The Normal range: 4000 – 11000 cells/ cubic
millimeter of blood.
The TLC blood
test:
Hence, it can be considered that the TLC blood test is always necessary in order to keep a check on this essential count.
It will also help in the complete recognition of some important diseases, like
blood cancer. Therefore, it is always important and essential to conduct this
test effectively and authentically. Whenever your physician has doubted any
kind of symptom and wants you to get the same done, then you must always get it
done properly.
